I think it’s time to let go of the chalk line and get a Laser!
Laser levels are becoming more and more popular in today’s market. Most major power tool manufactures have at least one in their lineup. These systems save time, improve accuracy, and allow you to get any project done with extreme precision. I want to give you a good idea on what it is like to upgrade to a laser level, especially a well-tuned instrument like this Bosch GLL3-330CG 360° 3-Plane Self-Leveling Laser Kit. This professional laser guide is packed with features and tech. What makes this level stand out from the rest is the VisiMax Line Technology, and the Bosch Leveling Remote App. Let’s get started!
You can use laser levels for all sorts of leveling applications, like grading or surveying. I’ve also seen these guides shine bright during the framing process of a home. It almost completely eliminates the use of chalk and replaces it with a laser beam. They can also serve many purposes indoors too. These lasers are great if you're trying to set cabinets, or really anything that requires a level line such as placing tile on a bathroom wall, installing shelves in your home office, or hanging picture frames down a hall. When this technology was first introduced, it was very expensive but now you could pick one up for $40! Check out the Stanley STHT77149 Self-Leveling Wall Mount Laser Level. If you value quality over price, let’s talk more about the Bosch laser kit! The Bosch GLL3-330CG provides an all-in-one level and alignment solution for a one-person job setup. This unit generates three green beams (say that three times fast!) projected in 360°, one horizontal and two vertical. The laser offers
dual power technology, which simply means it can be powered by a rechargeable 12-volt lithium-ion battery or with four AA alkaline batteries. The laser has a working range of up to 200 feet in diameter. With pulse mode engaged, the range extends up to 330 feet (with the optional LR8 receiver). All enclosed in a robust casing to withstand drops, shocks, rainy weather, and dusty jobsites. After testing out this laser in our studio, I can tell you this: Bosch spent most of their R&D in two main features. The VisiMax Line Technology and the Bosch Leveling Remote App. VisiMax is a Bosch exclusive technology that concentrates in maximizing brightness, energy efficiency, and long-term reliability. Laser diodes have improved throughout the years allowing Bosch to produce bright, clean, and sharp lines, especially the green beams (note: not to be confused with green beans). They are noticeably less grainy and can be seen at further distances. VisiMax proactively monitors the power consumption and temperature. This means that it optimizes the battery and extends the longevity of the laser by preventing overheating. Nice!!!
Bosch Leveling Remote App is another exclusive. It’s a free app that can be downloaded from Google’s Play Store or Apple’s App Store, and I highly recommend downloading it if you want to take full advantage of this product. It’s a mobile solution for users to control their Bosch laser systems and monitor the laser status via Bluetooth. You can check unit status and control functions remotely like turning the laser ON/OFF, choose laser line operating modes, adjust laser line visibility, and view/manage calibration (AKA CAL Guard). It enables the tool to be “smart” and adapt to the work environment to maximize usage. Having a laser level is a must have. Even if it's not this particular Bosch system, ANY laser level is a great addition to your arsenal of tools. Other options include the DeWalt DW0822LR 12-volt Cross Line or the Makita SK105DNAX 12-volt Self-Leveling Kit. They are fast to set up and fairly easy to operate, so don't be intimidated. In conclusion, I can say with confidence that the Bosch GLL3-330CG is a great piece of equipment and it's easy to recommend.
